Do you need a special kind of dress shirt to use cufflinks?

Or is it possible to use cufflinks with regular dress shirts that don't have the slits by the buttons? If so, how do you fasten them?

    its french cuff shirt-

if you try wearing cufflinks with a standard shirt you’re gonna look goofy! You can usually find an inexpensive french cuff shirt at places like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s or Burlington Coat Factory. Those stores are hit and miss with their inventory though.

Generally you will need a pair of cufflinks and a shirt with French cuffs. Although these days, there are clip-on cufflinks which you can fasten on to single cuffs shirts.
